Katherine is a
founding partner of the Chesapeake Holistic Health Center and
has been involved in the holistic healthcare field for over 15
years. She holds a Master’s Degree in Acupuncture from the
Academy
for Five Element Acupuncture (Florida) and is a Nationally
Board Certified Acupuncturist (Dipl. Ac.,
NCCAOM). She also
holds a Master’s Degree in Psychiatric Social Work from the
University of Maryland at Baltimore and has worked in
psychiatry, pediatric oncology & hematology, general
pediatrics, hospice and bereavement.
Her work in
acupuncture brings together several facets of her background and
experience, notably mental health training in psychotherapy, as well
as bioenergetic healing modalities including Applied Kinesiology,
Reiki, Therapeutic Touch, Craniosacral Therapy and Touch for Health.
Katherine’s
acupuncture practice encompasses both the Traditional and Five
Element approaches to treatment. While Traditional acupuncture
assists in relieving distressing physical symptoms and patterns and
restoring health and balance, the Five Element system also addresses
interior factors such as the emotions and the broader patterns of
the personality. Both systems of acupuncture promote balance and
harmony physically, emotionally, and mentally; stimulate and
strengthen the immune system; provide an overall sense of wellbeing
to help cope more effectively with stress in daily life; and assist
in personal growth, empowerment, and emotional transformation.
Her acupuncture
training includes a subspecialty in substance abuse and addictions
(NADA). She has worked with noted psychiatrist Michael Smith, M.D.,
the leading authority in the United States in acupuncture treatment
for addictions, at his clinic at the Lincoln Hospital Center in New
York City. Dr. Smith’s clinic is the model for many other
acupuncture treatment centers throughout the nation.
In addition,
Katherine is a Certified
BioSET Practitioner. Her longstanding
personal interest in immune function, allergies and food
sensitivities led to her working with Ellen Cutler, M.D., founder of
the BioSET Immunotherapy and Allergy Desensitization Therapy. She
also has trained with Devi Nambudripad, founder of
NAET.
Currently, Katherine
works extensively with infants, children and adults who are
experiencing a variety of acute and chronic health and emotional
disorders such as chronic fatigue/EBV, candidiasis, eczema,
psoriasis, obesity and irritable bowel; cardiovascular and
respiratory disorders such as hyperlipidemia, asthma, hypertension
and sinusitis; musculoskeletal disorders such as arthritis,
fibromyalgia, and headaches; as well as anxiety, depression, and
ADD/ADHD.
Katherine continues
to expand her knowledge base by working directly with Ellen Cutler,
M.D. in the area of immunotherapy and allergy desensitization, as
well as working with leading medical and scientific professionals in
the cutting edge of bioenergetic healing therapies.
